🎨 How to Make a DIY Marble Cake Topper with Paint & Vinyl
Want to create a cake topper that’s totally one of a kind? This simple DIY marble acrylic cake topper tutorial is the perfect way to add your own flair to birthdays, weddings, or baby showers. Best part? No two toppers will ever be the same!
This is a fun project that uses one of our clear acrylic cake topper blanks, some paint, and a zip lock bag. Yep—it’s that easy.
🧾 What You’ll Need
- Clear Cake Topper – Shop blank toppers here
- Zip lock bag (thicker is better)
- Acrylic paint (any colour combo you love)
- Gold foil (optional for that luxe touch)
- Your own vinyl cut design (for the final step)
🎨 Step-by-Step: Create Your Marble Topper
1. Prepare Your Cake Topper
Peel off the protective film from one side of your blank clear cake topper.
2. Add Paint to the Zip Lock Bag
Place the zip lock bag on a flat surface. Squeeze blobs of acrylic paint onto it.
💡 Tip: Stick with acrylic paint—it bonds to the topper well. Other paints may flake once dry.
3. Mottle & Marble the Paint
Fold or press the zip lock bag a few times to marbleise the paint without over-mixing.
4. Add Gold Foil (Optional)
Place small bits of gold foil on the marbled paint. This adds a beautiful shimmer effect once dried.
5. Transfer to the Topper
Press the exposed side of your cake topper into the marbled paint. Carefully lift and reveal your one-of-a-kind design.
6. Dry Completely
Set the topper aside and resist the urge to touch it! Drying times may vary depending on paint thickness.
7. Apply Vinyl & Finish
Once completely dry, peel off the second protective film from the other side. Apply your vinyl design (name, age, or quote) for a polished, finished look.
🎂 Why We Love This Project
